Advice on whether I explained things in the best way or not...

DD2 goes to nursery with a little boy who has lesbian parents

She asked me why he has 2 Mummys

I said because sometimes 2 ladies love each other very much and want to have a baby too, like a man and a lady do (I am pregnant atm so babies and all things related are high up there on the discussion agenda)

DD1 (6) then piped up with "But he must have a Daddy too, because the Mummy needs the sperm"

Which led to me explaining that sometimes the lady knows who gave her the sperm, and that a Dr or a nurse will help her to get pregnant, but that sometimes she might not know who it was. Was at this point I got a bit stuck... with DD1 wanting to know all the mechanics of how someone else puts the sperm in etc [flustered]

But what concerns me is that I don't know if I've explained it in a way that the little boy himself understands! What if I've contradicted what he's been told by his parents?!

PMSL think you did a great job - want to explain it to our DD when she starts asking?

If you know the boy's parents maybe let them know that other children in his class are curious - but you seem to have covered all the bases. It's great that your DD knows enough to ask about the mechanics!!

Thanks

Feel a bit more reassured now!

As I said, we are having a LOT of baby-related talk atm as I am about to drop... so dd1 in particular keen to know how it got there, how it's coming out etc etc

Thing is, I don't know the little boy's parents at all so not something I could bring up with ease!
