After three positive pregnancy tests my dw and I are delighted that we are pregnant following donor insemination from an unknown donor.
Just had to share!

Lady Tophamm Hatt I'll have you know I was here from +ve pregnancy test to birth

In fact I was lurking from dp's +ve pregnancy test, but at that time wasn't sure if I could be a 'proper' MNer 'cos it wasn't me who was pregnant

Anyway, congratulations soapybubble and keep us posted!

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 29/06/2008 21:00

congratulations!!

also, soapybubble?

think you'll find due date is much closer than it appears in the mirror...

YeahBut · 29/06/2008 21:03

Congratulations!

ladytophamhatt · 29/06/2008 21:37

ohhh dotty, I knew you'd know teh answer.

(it wasn't much of a faux par was it??)

How silly that you didn't see youself as proper Mner though.....

ladytophamhatt · 29/06/2008 21:40

Avtually I don't know HOW I didn't knwo it was you Dotty.

God, shall i dig this hole a bit deeper??

Dottydot · 29/06/2008 21:55

Yes, I remember thinking no-one would see me as a 'proper' Mum if I wasn't the one getting enormous..! Mad woman - all seems a million years ago now.

Soapybubble - whereabouts are you? Have you got lots of support and are your families OK with it all etc? If you ever need a chat there are a few of us gay Mums on MN.

missingwine · 30/06/2008 10:00

Fab news - congratulations to you and your dw Soapybubble! Good luck with the PG which will whizz by and before you know it, you'll be at my stage; 40+3 and wanting him out Keep us posted on your progress x

chipmonkey · 01/07/2008 01:14

Fab news!
No Dotty, it's the use of fruit shoots that make one an improper Mum, regardless of size of belly!

ZacharyQuack · 01/07/2008 01:43

Congratulations . You both must be so thrilled!

Thank you Soapybubble - for making me the proudest dw (I think that's the correct terminology for mumsnet!). Despite our pg (?) still being in the early stages, you are already looking more radiant each day.
Thanks also to everyone else that has left supportive messages - without doubt there will come a time when we will have to ask for your advice.
In fact, although I am out at work, does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should broach the subject of paternity leave !

chipmonkey · 05/07/2008 11:11

at anyone who looks radiant during pregnancy! I always look like Dracula attended to me the night before! Not in the UK so don't know about paternity leave but most companies tend to be understanding.

Impatience · 09/07/2008 11:23

Congrats Goalie & Soapybubble! Our second was born a couple of weeks ago, both with MN support from TTC to... well, still going!

My boss gave me pat leave without any question. Hopefully you won't get anything other than congratulations. I just went in and said I needed to request paternity leave, and he just gave it to me. If you suspect there might be a problem find out from HR what the paternity leave is first and then make the specific request to your boss: "I'd like to request my 1wk full pay and 2nd wk SMP paternity leave please!" But hopefully there won't be any problem and you'll wonder what you'd been worried about.

Hope all goes smoothly, and congrats again x

cheesesarnie · 09/07/2008 11:28

Congratulations Goalie and Soapybubble!

NigellaTheOriginal · 09/07/2008 11:30

congratulations both. have BF who is about to embark on this - will direct her over here to pick up some hint and tips.

hester · 24/07/2008 22:11

ladytophamhatt - I hung about on the ttc threads for a long, long time before finally achieving my positive test. So we've had a few lesbian pregnancies here before!

But HUGE congratulations, goalie and soapybubble! I hope you have a wonderful pregnancy.

Dottydot · 24/07/2008 22:14

Goalie - I also just asked for paternity leave - in a way that I just assumed I'd get it! I got 2 weeks paid paternity leave and I then took 4 weeks annual leave so was very lucky and had 6 weeks off in total.

If you work for a large (or better still, public sector) organisation you should be fine.

stripeywoollenhat · 25/07/2008 11:19

congrats!
very jealous about paternity leave; dp and i live in ireland where i very much doubt that would be a runner...

Goalie · 26/07/2008 08:28

Paternity leave will be granted - 1 week on full pay, 1 week SPP. I just needed to muster the courage to 'tell' them I was having it!

My HR were fine with that question, but didn't quite know what to say when I asked if they had ever had anyone take both paternity and maternity leave in the same year. I'm not PG, but I thought I'd see what their reaction was

nixpix · 26/07/2008 11:05

Congratulations!!! This is fabulous news, time will fly, don't worry. I'm 35 weeks and cant believe it's almost all over. (the pregnancy part, I mean!)
Nix

Goalie · 03/08/2011 20:15

Doesn't time fly. I remember writing the thank you message to all those that wished us well in 2008! Well, slight update, we had a gorgeous little boy 2.5 years ago and we're now expecting a little sibling for him! Due next February - a day or so before our sons birthday! My DW did such at good job of growing a bubby last time, I'm letting her do it again!
Already starting to panic about double the trouble! :o

smokinaces · 03/08/2011 20:25

Congratulations Goalie!

I admit, I saw the thread title and was hoping to see it was friends of mine who have been trying for a long time - but equally happy to see you are having another additon to your family!!

SheCutOffTheirTails · 03/08/2011 20:30

Congratulations :) Lovely news

Are you both pregnant?

Sorry, at first I presumed you were just saying your DW was pregnant, but using "we" to include you both. Then I noticed you had a due date, and it struck me you could BOTH be pregnant together.

That would be amazing.

Apologies if I've read this completely wrong.

Goalie · 04/08/2011 07:26

Just my DW is pregnant - I can't even bring myself to imagine how we would cope with both of us pregnant at the same time!!!!
Smokinaces, sorry you didn't see the news you were hoping for - these things can take a long time, but thanks for your best wishes.

hester · 04/08/2011 07:56

Wonderful news - congratulations to you both Smile

ladytophamhatt - I think we've had a few MN lesbian pregnancies. I was on the conception threads for ages before finally conceiving, miscarrying, then conceiving again and carrying a baby to term. It was all here on MN, and I got amazing support from loads of people.
