Hello
My son is transgender he thinks he wants to go through the transition. He is seeing the Gender Hormone Clinic in London for his first on line appointment. I would be so grateful if anyone could share whether they have used them and what their feedback is good or bad. I’m very nervous of the process as I know nothing about it. Thank you.

I think anything other than 'watchful waiting' is considered unethical following the Cass review.

I’d recommend getting in touch with the Bayswater Support Group. They’re parents of trans-identifying children who should be able to help.

I've looked at the website and it just looks like a money making scheme for poor unsuspecting children that want to render themselves infertile

He doesn't think he'll actually be able to change sex, surely?

doyourhomework · 09/05/2025 19:24

Right. Echo of my thoughts. I love my son and will do all to protect him. He’s over 18 when parents can lose some control. It’s very hard to navigate but appreciate the replies.

Who is funding the treatment as its not cheap by the looks of it?

The Cass Review specifically talks about 18-25 year olds.

Heres the AI version of what is said:

The Cass Review recommends a "follow-through" service for 18-25 year olds, specifically those connected to children's services, due to potential gaps in care when transitioning to adult services at age 17. This recommendation acknowledges the continued brain maturation and potential vulnerabilities during this developmental period. The review also suggests that the current cut-off at age 18 is a particularly vulnerable point for patients, with mental health often worsening.

If there is anything you can do to help your son avoid treatment via a private clinic, please do it.
