Nice areas in london

Hi, we are a family of two dads and a little 4yo boy. We live in west London in a predominantly Asian area where we now feel a bit cut out culturally. Being dame sex I also fear our son might encounter some resistance by some of his classmates families. We are looking at moving but I am rather overwhelmed. We would love a three bed house and our budget is around £650k. Ideally in west/south west London but open to possibilities, as long as it is an easy commute into central London, especially at night as my husband finishes work around midnight and needs to come back. Any suggestions? Thanks 😊

Are you in southall/Hounslow? Anywhere on the Lizzie line past Hayes. Hanwell would be perfect but not sure it’s in your budget.

Unless your son goes to private school, most London schools will consist of majority BAME students.
Catholic of CofE schools might have a higher percentage of white students.
Me person hopes your son or yourself are not discriminated against.

@Whydidshedothis
dont know where to start with that- at least 3 demonstrably untrue statements.

I know, I love hanwell and Northfields, but I am afraid they’re out of our budget

You could buy in Isleworth. When I lived there some years back, I liked living there (though the flight path was intense) but there seemed to be quite a strong undercurrent of right-wing white supremacy stuff. Not, obviously, in my house, but you might find you were out of the frying pan and into the fire politically.

Turmerictolly · 02/08/2023 21:43

I think you'd get a 3 bed house in SE London which is liberal - somewhere like Charlton SE7? Different vibe to West London though.

Ripleysgameface · 02/08/2023 21:45

There are some great areas in south west London (Clapham, Brixton, Tulse Hill, Herne Hill, Balham).
I'm not sure what you'd find for your budget though.

You'll get more for your money in south east London.
Lovely family areas around honor oak, brockley, Sydenham, Crofton Park, Crystal Palace, some parts of Peckham are very nice now around the park and close to Dulwich.

What do you mean by the white supremacy?

Lamelie · 02/08/2023 22:21

•That state schools are predominantly bame
•CofE and catholic schools are whiter.

I know what you mean btw, you don’t want your lad surrounded by families recently arrived from a country with a strong anti gay culture.

We used to live in Catford until last year from a really nice area (known locally as "Corbet estate"). It has a really nice community and we know of at least 3 LGBT families which isn't bad for an area of 20ish streets (and I'm sure we don't know everyone!).
You would definitely get something nice in the area and more for your money than west. Some lovely victorian houses with period fearures (for example https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/136219817?utm_campaign=property-details&utm_content=buying&utm_medium=sharing&utm_source=copytoclipboard#/&channel=RES_BUY

What? I don’t know where to start with this. Catholic or CofE schools have possibly higher percentages of BAME pupils where I am in London - certainly no less. And why would London schools have a majority BAME when BAME is still a minority in London?

I challenged @Whydidshedothis too but they haven’t come back.

The OP hinted he wanted somewhere majority white. His reason I can understand because of fear of discrimination.

Yours is just vile.
BTW white people can also be homophobic.

Lamelie · 03/08/2023 15:49

I think we’re at cross purposes? I can’t see where I said anything vile- state schools are not predominately BAME and church schools are more, not less, mixed.
