Which one is best pride?

Hey everyone, my pfb came out in September. My whole family want to do a pride with him for first one (next year now obvs). Which is best one in U.K.? Is it london or Brighton or sonewhere else and can you take younger kids? My youngest are 9 and 10?

Also do you have to get tickets or just rock up?

I promised to take him to NYC PRIDE when he’s 21 so few more years for that one.

Also, some advice would be great, should I worry he’s not got any LGBT friends? He has loads of girlfriends but no boys. I worry desperately that he will get grief for his sexuality. He’s grown up in family where even older generations believe love comes in many forms so never had any issues with biggits. I would literally want to kill someone if they made him feel shit!

Sorry for ranty long post!

You just rock up. Manchester do Pride beautifully. But they're all great. Where are you based?

Re his mates...nothing wrong with lots of girls. He will make more male friends once he's older and goes out more.

In Brighton the parade is good for all ages, but the actual party in the park is not somewhere you want to take young'uns.

Brighton parade is great. Just turn up and grab a spot on the route. Really great feel to it. Don't take him to Preston Park festival though (for which you need tickets). Drugs everywhere and not a child friendly environment at all. Very adult

Pride marches are very corporate affairs now and have been hijacked by transactivists and paedophiles

CovidicusRex · 25/05/2020 07:13

Pride is not an appropriate place for young children at all. Maybe take him alone?

Thanks everyone, we are in Surrey so only about an hour from Brighton or half hour on train to london. We will do the parade next year xx

This.

Brighton Pride is great and there IS a family area in the main park, it has a separate entrance slightly off from the main area which you can only get in and out of with a child - it’s quiet, has it own tent, entertainment and loos but you can duck in and out of the main area easily.
We take our kids after the parade, base ourselves in the lovely shadey kids area which includes the main play park of Preston Park and duck in and out of the rest with or without kids til about 5/6ish. Towards the evening the main park can all get. A bit mad for kids I think. Ours LOVE it as they’re given freebies, balloons etc from the stalls and festival goers a like.
The next day at Pride the Sunday - is much more sedate but also much more ‘straight’ though as a family you’d probably enjoy that. You can get a separate ticket for that and kids are free or you can get a weekend ticket. Again kids under 12 are free.

In my experience people who say Brighton is NOT for kids actually have no idea that there is a family area at all as they wouldn’t see it in passing and couldn’t get in anyway. They have security to make sure no randomers get to the kids bit

‘Pride marches are very corporate affairs now and have been hijacked by transactivists and paedophiles’

Oh do jog on.

In Brighton because the whole city turns rainbow for an entire weekend you can have a great experience just being in the city at the time, and if you want your DC to feel good about being LGBT it’s definitely something to experience as there is so much free stuff going on, and so much positivity. Yes a lot of it is sponsored by companies, but it costs a lot of money to run a safe Pride so take what you can from it and ignore the bits you don’t like.

WitchyMoo · 19/07/2020 10:01

Is that true about peadophiles and transactivists? .. how do you know this ? I'm off the the unofficial "Pride on the beach" August 1st and I'm taking 2 little ones ? I'm very concerned now

Spinnyspiney · 19/07/2020 10:31

@WitchyMoo no of course it’s not true.
It as for the Pride on the beach - there’s a bloody pandemic, are you sure you want to be part of a big. Each party with kids???
