Lesbian wannabe mums in London...help!

DW and I are on the road to babies. We have no idea where to start. It all seems so surreal to just buy sperm and see what happens.

Are there any resources/blogs that you think could be helpful to us? Are there any support groups in London for gay mums-to-be? And are there any clinics that you'd recommend in London?

Hi there,

We started out by going along to an "inseminar" at London Women's Clinic. They explained all the options. It was free!

If you are planning on going private my only advice would be don't bother with IUI - go straight to IVF!

I'd also recommend the London Women's Clinic. I'm now 18 weeks pregnant with our 1st child and it's still hard to believe. After failed IUI we were third time lucky with IVF (ICSI). The Fertility journey can be an emotional rollercoaster ride. Just make sure whoever is trying that you allow time for lots of appointments and cost! Everything will be explained to after your initial consultation, you will require blood tests, scans etc. The main thing re Fertility is the quality of your eggs and once you have had your eggs retrieved and hopefully successfully fertilised, the lab likes to see them grow to day 5 (When they become a Blastocyst - which is your main aim) before an embryo transfer. I wish you lots of luck. My one tip is to start taking Pre-Natals a good three months before trying to conceive. I invested in the Pregnacare Range (Highly recommended by midwives) for 4 months and it certainly did me no harm. 🍀

I don't have any advice, but watching with interest - this will be us soon enough. Wishing you the best of luck! :)

There's a really good, long-running thread in the 'Becoming a Parent' section (in the 'Donor Conception' subsection). Obviously not everyone on the thread is a lesbian, but there's a few of us, and lots of the issues are relevant to everyone who's trying with donor sperm or donor eggs or whatever combination thereof.
