Is being hetro-sexual hereditary?

Pann · 21/02/2007 20:17

I have come understand that there is alot of it about, and I was reading that most people consider themselves to be 'hetro-sexual'. I am, though I have seen "The Wizard of Oz" more than once. My parents were as far as know, and my sisters are, though, again, one of them did accomapny me to see "The Wizard of Oz"

I am a friend of Dorothy in RL. Dorothy Brown who I met at work, so I suppose this doesn't count.

Is hetro-sexuality caused by a defective gene?

Anyone know??

Are you serious,pann?

NotQuiteCockney · 21/02/2007 21:01

I'm pretty sure it is. I mean, most heterosexual people are the child of at least one heterosexual person. Obviously it's genetic.

Of course, it could be environmental. The generation after British people started eating tomatoes, there was a large percentage of heterosexuality.

GlamisThouArt · 21/02/2007 21:45

Interesting point, NQC re the tomatoes. Perhaps these were beef tomatoes, that implies a 'testosterone-blessing' that comes with them, so that may instill a certain sexual gumption so admired by the hetro-sexual.

I do fear for the future of the hetro-sexual, though. In terms of evolutionary development the game may be up. I was reading one theorist who states that the only two roles for the male human is 1. to provide semen ( no matter what it smells of) and 2. To get things down off high shelves.
Well the latter has been over-taken by the invention of the step-ladder. And the former function will soon be organised chemically in laboratories.

Maybe the "hetro-sexual defective gene" is natures way of 'cause-and-effect' of these developments.

Monkeytrousers · 21/02/2007 21:52

Oh very political!

Pann · 21/02/2007 22:14

Well, it's in consideration of Q.E's thread on whether being gay is hereditary, and, IF being hetro-sexual is the abberation rather than the norm.

OP posts:
Monkeytrousers · 21/02/2007 22:29

Have I missed something? 'Abberation'?

Pann · 21/02/2007 22:37

bit OTT word, yes!!

just a question of whether being hetro. is the 'socially-dominant' orientation, but infact that doesn't reflect anything more than face-value...so searching for a 'genetic' answer is equally applicable to any orientation.

no insults intended!!!!

I never take offence Pann, no worries, and certainluy not on MN.

It is a morally loaded question but is also a very intersting scientifc one,; one worthy of investigation. The problem is seperating the two.

Monkeytrousers · 21/02/2007 22:43

Oop's. Two glasses of wine and I begion to look like cod

GlamisThouArt · 21/02/2007 22:58

just the two?

expatinscotland · 21/02/2007 23:00

Have one for me, MT.

These damn antibiotics!

I'm a rampant hetero .

DD1 has shown obvious hetero tendancies and she's 3.7.

QueenEagle · 21/02/2007 23:03

Can I let you know in, ooh about 6 years?

dd is dating a girl, ds1 is a cross dresser, and so is ds2 who also wants to be a girl.

You only have to look at their parents to see something has definitely gone awry somehwere!

expatinscotland · 21/02/2007 23:04

DD1 and the wee boy she plays with throw their arms round each other and give each other wet kisses on the lips whenever they see each other.

He strokes her hair and says, 'I prefer DD1, she's the bonniest lass in all Edinburgh.'

She says she's going to marry him.

Monkeytrousers · 21/02/2007 23:05

that's just sick

expatinscotland · 21/02/2007 23:06

I cringe to think she may be as raging man-crazy as I am.

GlamisThouArt · 21/02/2007 23:06

muminfife - exactly!!

My gay/lesbian friends occassionally wonder out loud to me, 'all of that complicated messing around you hetros do. It must be awful for you!'

Monkeytrousers · 21/02/2007 23:08

what is it Glamis - from drunken memory...'and Cawdor thou shalt be'??

GlamisThouArt · 21/02/2007 23:09

yes, MT

Glamis thou art
and Cawdor
And shalt be what thou art promised

Act1 Sc4, I think.

expatinscotland · 21/02/2007 23:24

I went to Glamis this past summer.

Wasn't impressed.

The play is better .

GlamisThouArt · 21/02/2007 23:29

No, and Cawdor Castle is pretty modest I am told.

But yes, the play is the thing!

expatinscotland · 21/02/2007 23:30

I've not seen Cawdor, but it's on the list!

We love castles. Mostly because they also provide a lovely setting for a picnic.

What do you think caused your heterosexuality?

  1. When and how did you decide you were a heterosexual?
  1. Is it possible that your heterosexuality is just a phase that you may grow out of?
  1. Is it possible that your heterosexuality stems from a neurotic fear of others of the same sex?
  1. If you have never slept with a person of the same sex, is it possible that all you need is a good gay lover?
  1. Do your parents know that you are straight? Do your friends and/or roommates know?
  1. Why do you insist on flaunting your heterosexuality? Can't you just be who you are and keep it quiet?
  1. Why do heterosexuals place so much emphasis on sex?
  1. Why do heterosexuals fell so compelled to introduce others to their lifestyle?
  1. A disproportionate majority of child molesters are heterosexual. Do you consider it safe to expose children to heterosexual teachers?

  2. Just what do men and women do in bed together? How can they truly know how to please each other, being so anatomically different?

  3. With all the societal support marriage receives, the divorce rate is spiraling. Why are there so few stable relationships between heterosexuals?

  4. Statistics show that lesbians have the lowest of sexually transmitted disease. Is it really safe for a woman to maintain a heterosexual lifestyle and run the risk of disease and pregnancy?

  5. How can you expect to become a whole person if you limit yourself to compulsive, exclusive heterosexuality?

  6. Considering the menace of overpopulation, how could the human race survive if everyone were heterosexual?

  7. Could you trust a heterosexual therapist to be objective? Don't you feel that (s)he might be inclined to influence you in the direction of his/her own orientation?

  8. There seem to be very few happy heterosexuals. Techniques have been developed that might enable you change if you really want to. Have you ever considered aversion therapy?

  9. Would you want your child to be heterosexual, knowing the problems (s)he would face?

Monkeytrousers · 24/02/2007 12:46

LOL SJ!
