Hi my partner and i (we are lesbians) are planning to start a family in next few years. We are looking for any advice on falling pregnant and clinics etc in edinburgh or glasgow. Any help would be greatly appreciated and would be good to hear from other couples.

Hi Olutoyin, I know there did used to be a South London Lesbian Mums group. Not sure if there're still around but worth a Google! We're in East London where there are quite a few little groups but my knowledge doesn't extend further geographically! Congratulations on your baby!

olutoyin · 04/04/2016 17:11

JemmaLun83 · 02/02/2017 22:37

Hello,

My wife and I are looking to start a family. We don't have thousands of pounds to spend on IVF so just wondered if anyone out there has done it via a donor and AI?

Would love to hear people's experiences!

Jem x

Aatahu · 14/02/2017 22:05

Hi Jem! Good luck! We did everything on the NHS in London. 6 iui then success on first ivf. Our little darling is now 4. We brought our own sperm from cryos. It was about 350 each time - that was the only cost. We didn't want a known donor.

People I know at baby group used a known donor- he dropped the sample off to their house at the correct time of the month.

See what you can get for free on the nhs. Hope it goes well!

ImmortalityMyDarlings · 12/08/2017 15:25

Bump!

Where can you get anon but vetted healthy sperm from in London?
We not keen on donor being involved

Sm1987 · 27/08/2017 08:57

Hi Girls,

PLEASE READ..

Me and me wife decided to start a family 2 years ago both aged 28. I come from a very fertile family so we thought this would be a doddle. We ordered frozen sperm from cryos to our home 3 months in a row and all ended in failure. (That cost £1300 a time). We then went on coparents and found a clean donor who wanted no envolvement should we conceive. We tried with him 3 times and failed. Heartbroken we thought best to do it properly and go down the IVF route. We spent £7000 on IVF and yet again failed. Success rate here in U.K. Is just 50%. We thought the best thing to do was save up again for IVF but in the meantime we then met another donor on coparents and thought to give him a try. We tried twice with him and again failed. Completely heartbroken we thought we would give it one last try. We went back on coparents and found a donor stating he had got 5 women pregnant, he bragged he had super-sperm and he must have because 1 try with him and we were pregnant. In my advice don't give up, keep trying different donors and one will get you there. If you have no medical problems, Don't waste money on IVF or IUI just find the right Donor.

I would recommend...

  • asking donor to donate 2/3 times in your window so you catch the egg right.
  • don't use pressed, we ran out the month we conceived.
  • try 2 methods to keep options open, pot/syring and softcup (these are so easy and comfy to use- just don't spill putting it in)
  • make sure you do the big O! It helps I'm sure :)

Good luck with all your journeys, I know how frustrating it is but you will get there.

Currently 8 weeks pregnant!! :) :)
Xxxxxxx

Hi, I am a 10 weeks pregnant and looking to make new LGBT pals near to St Albans who are having children or have children. I will be a single Mum and while I luckily have lots of awesome straight local pals, it would be nice to meet normal Smile people locally, rather than hit London for gay buddy times.

JenJenVN · 25/07/2019 12:47

Hi, not Edin or Glasgow sorry. We went with Darlington LWC which we were absolutely delighted with, beginning to end. We had planned to go to Newcastle but heard so many negative comments from same sex couples and how they were received. We shipped sperm from abroad and the clinic were really helpful. D’ton LWC made us feel completely at ease. Proud parents now of twin boys.

Glebland8 · 06/10/2019 19:37

Hello everyone.
I'm new to this site and I'm looking for some. Help.
My wife and I have recently got married and we are looking for the best clinic to start treatment.
Are there clinics out there that you can see photographs of the donor?? Xx

ktate · 21/04/2020 14:58

hello
i am in a same sex couple, i have PCOS quite bad. we want to start the process of having a baby. Does anyone have any advice? do we get it free on NHS? is IUI worth it? how much? does IUI have a high rate for a boy?

many help will be great, thank you!

Migimigo · 25/04/2020 18:24

Hi, do all donors on Pride Angels want contact afterwards? My gf and I would love to have a baby together but it all seems very expensive and IUI doesn't seem to have a great success rate. I don't mind going down the private donor route but am not sure how comfortable I would be with having an "uncle" around that may undermine my role

Migimigo · 25/04/2020 18:29

@Sm1987 did your donor have any health checks done? And has there been no contact since?x

SarahAndQuack · 05/05/2020 21:11

This is a very old thread, so it might be better to start a new one?

But, @ktate, no, it won't be free on the NHS for a while. You will have to demonstrate a problem conceiving (in our area it was 6 failed rounds of IUI treatment). You might then qualify for free treatment, depending on your age and where you are.

IUI has nothing to do with gender.

@migimigo - bear in mind that if you have a baby with a GF outside a registered clinic, you cannot easily both be legal parents. Worth considering IMO.

Natashaevans17 · 20/05/2020 13:49

My wife and I have made the decision to start planning to get pregnant later this year. I want to get pregnant, she doesn't unless necessary so it works out well. We're planning to go through IVF at the Care Fertility clinic in Tamworth, I believe they have clinics throughout the country so I'd suggest seeing if they have one near you, our experience so far with them has been great!
I have PCOS so IUI was more or less written off which would have been the cheaper option, we're going to be going through IVF and fingers crossed this time next year I'll be heavily pregnant!

Spinnyspiney · 19/07/2020 10:05

Used a clinic so that we were both joint and equal parents, iUI - very straight forward, not expensive ( well £2k total ) and have a girl and a boy.
A clinic will do some basic tests to check there are no fertility probs then go IUI normally.
Known donors are good for some people but can cause lots of issues down the line - donors wanting to parental rights etc.
You should check out Brighton rainbow families in FB - lots of parents there ( 700+) Who can give you all sorts of advice.

bmac2019 · 10/09/2020 02:13

Have a question for the non biological mums/parent- do you feel like sometimes or most of the time that as the non biological parent that you cant make decision regarding your child/kids.

I feel like what i want to do and try make decisions that its not as important, as i wasnt the one to carry.

Sorry normally wouldnt do this, but just dont want to feel alone and needsome advice on what to do.
