I looked on my sons phone and he googled a gay test the results said he is straight, but I'm curious as to why ge took it did he think he was please don't judge me I'm just trying to understand why someone would take a test like that would they have had to have feelings to a same sex person to doubt themselves pleas3 be gentle on me I asked him and he said he took it to if if he was and said he already knows he's not
I don't know if I'm making sense but my question is do you think he has a thought or attraction to a same sex person that lead him to take the test

Can you not remember being young and doing those silly quizzes in magazines? Mostly A) you're a cat
Mostly C) you're an hedgehog

I did loads of them. Apparently I'm an heavy metal loving cheetah with a penchant for dressing like a tomboy and my spirit spice girl is Mel C.

It's all a load of crap and so what if he's done one? So what if he might be gay or is thinking he might be?

So what?

How old is he? Why are you looking? It is n't any of your business really

We should all be mindful of what it children are accessing online. Unless he's an adult, looking through his phone isn't a problem.

Probably just curiosity to see what it said, who cares?

ok...it doesn't matter how old the kid is anyone can be part of the lgbtq+ community

I think the age is relevant because a 17 year old taking the quiz is much more likely to be having doubts about their sexuality while a 10 year old may just be trying to understand being gay, especially at a time when they probably prefer the company of other boys and are only just starting to think about attraction.

It also changes how weird it is that OP looked. If it's a 17 year old I'd be wondering why she's looking and wondering whether he knows she looks through his history. With a 10 year old I'd be glad he only ended up on a quiz and questioning access to screens and parental locks etc.

but a 10-year-old could be as gay as a 17 year old

Kids do those kinds of tests for fun, a lot of the time. I also suspect most teens have wondered if they were gay at some point. Honestly, you should put it out of your mind.

A pp suggested you should start dropping hints that you are lgb friendly but honestly, this could backfire. You should really have been communicating way before this that gay is OK and that everything can be discussed in your family. If you haven't been doing this, think carefully about how you send those messages without being perceived as fishing for information.

Maybe he’s gay.

Maybe he’s not gay but someone at school called him gay and he took a test to see.

Maybe his friends sent the link round and they all took it and shared their scores.

Maybe you should use full stops.

😂

It might be triggered by being attracted to another guy, it might not be. Only your son could know that.

I used to take loads of those quizzes as a teenager, fwiw I'm bisexual (now in my 30s) but I'm pretty sure some of my straight friends have taken them too. I wouldn't worry, it'll all come out in the wash. As someone who's been the kid, just make sure you're there for him and show (in a discreet way) that you don't mind what orientation he turns out to have.

Ohhhh. I’m 41 and definitely straight. I’m might have a wander off and take one though, it’d be fun!
I wouldn’t stress about it tbh. I’m sure I remember taking a quiz at 14 to determine what fruit I would be.

Why has someone resurrected this long dead thread?!

SockPlant · 31/03/2026 12:50

I think it is fine to take a "gay test". I think it is very much fine indeed to check your under-age child's phone.

I do think that if you see something like this on your child's phone, your first thoughts should be about how you can support your child at this time in their life. Gay or not isn't the issue here.

And take time to think how you react to the knowledge that your child is, or is not, gay. That is very important here.

I did a test in Jackie magazine when I was 14 to see if I was really in love with Marc Bolan. These sorts of things do the rounds (especially now with social media) and very much appeal to teenagers. They're trying to find out who they are at that age. I expect the link has been circulated around all his friends.
