Parking fine for back wheel on kerb in Mothercare carpark, is there anything I can do?

I was shopping at Mothercare today and got a £45 parking ticket because my car was "parked with one or more wheels on any part of an urban road other than a carriageway (footway parking)".

I couldn't get the car parked perfectly straight so one of my back wheels was just slightly on the kerb of a path behind the trolley stand. Really annoyed at myself as there were loads of free spaces and I would never have even considered that I could have been fined for that! The ticket was issued by UKPC. Is there anything I can do? Thanks in advance.

Unless you have a good reason for parking on the footway, probably not.

Do you mean you were in a private carpark?? If so, sounds to me like the law they quoted relates to parking on the public highway... In which case they sound like dodgy types who are just out to make money.

Worth a try

If the ticket was issued by a company ie not the council or the police, then you can ignore it and they'll eventually go away.

These parking companies are well known for questionable 'fines'. There are a number of forums dedicated to helping people who find themselves in your situation. Google the name of the parking company and you'll probably find loads of stuff.

Thank you for the replies. I didn't have a good reason, I tried to re-park a couple of times but the car park was so busy (with cars) driving behind me so I thought I'd be ok. I only planned to pop in for 5 minutes but dd needed feeding so I was there for 30 mins. I wouldn't have parked on a kerb of a path where people walked, this was just a bit of path the length of a car behind the trolley stand. It is a private car park (for mothercare, aldi, wines direct), although I'm not sure who its owned by. Thats useful fruitstick, will have a good read of that, but not sure if I'm brave enough to ignore the ticket. I think the parking attendant was watching me and waiting for me to leave my car. I took a photo as my wheel was really just slightly bumped up. I was having such a nice day until this happened

This isn't a fixed penalty notice, although they try to make it look like one. In essence they are threatening to prosecute you but are offering to settle out of court if you pay them some money. There is no independent appeals process but, if they do take you to court, the court may decide that you don't have to pay them anything.

It may be a good idea to see the CAB. I would also write to Mothercare as an upset customer. They may tell UKPC to back off.
