REMO (Reciprocal Enforcement of Maintenance Orders)

Does anyone have any positive experience of this organisation?

I have a case which has been with them for 4 years and still ongoing. I have made a number of complaints but they seem impervious to any scrutiny and refuse to accept any criticism against them. I could write a book about how bad they are, but before I do (!), I wondered if anyone out there has had/is still experiencing their slowness, refusal to use email and similar modern forms of technology, refusal to cooperate with the local courts, refusal to answer letters, etc, etc.

In England & Wales the REMO Unit is part of the Official Solicitors Office and most difficulties seem to be down to local court staff not knowing the procedures to follow or problems with central authorities/courts in other countries. Do you have an order from a court in the UK to enforce or are you applying for CM in another country through REMO?

Yes, I've had my share of ignorance from the family court and although they have 'upped their game' I cant say they are really managing my case well. REMO, on the other hand, have been the ones who have totally screwed up. Wondered if it was just my case they didnt like, or if REMO was just another slow lane government organisation with zero accountability to the publi, ie me.

@Sunchi I know this is an old thread, but I wondering whether you had any success with your REMO application.

Sunchi · 16/01/2023 18:38

@okapimum yes, I eventually received child maintenance for my children. However, it took the best part of 9 years as my ex just refused to pay even with enforcement.

I also made a complaint to the Ombudsman about the failings of the court and REMO. They found in my favour.

Now, things are very different when you apply to REMO. See my comments of a few minutes ago.

Thanks for contacting me! I do write about my travails on LinkedIn.

Thanks for the update, @Sunchi ! And I am really glad to hear your application was successful in the end! I did read you previous posts regarding your experience with REMO. In my case, the application was relatively straightforward (so far). I first contacted them in Nov 2021, and by early April 2022 it was sent to the foreign authorities. No updates since then though. I do not mind waiting (as I can provide for my kid), as long as the paying parent pays what it owed at some stage. But I hope it does not take as long as yours did. We'll see... Thanks!

@Okapimum that's great news! Just remember to keep on to them, so they don't forget you. One of the REMO officers did say to me recently 😀that if you put URGENT on your email, they will look at it more quickly.

Thanks for the tip @Sunchi ! What is your 'name' on LinkedIn (if you don't mind sharing it here)? No worries if you prefer not to, I understand.
