LL selling House - help please

We moved into rental house on 6 month agreement last september, renewal came up in Jan and we moved to rolling agreement. LL gave notice mid April for us to leave mid June, we requested extension until end of summer term as DD doing AS levels ie extra 6 weeks. LA came back with email from LL agreeing this if we would extend to mid september, and if we were happy to show potential buyers round during this period he would reduce the rent by £100/month. Agreement at this stage by both parties, only have on email, went to LA last week who advised that he needed to send us the formal letter out confirming above.
We showed potential buyers around a week ago, they have put in an offer and want vacant possession in 4 weeks. LL now requesting that we move out within 4 weeks so that his sale can go through. He is an expat and is currently home, came round unannounced at 9pm 4 nights ago to discuss, DH was away, so my DC now know and are stressed. We are looking to move ASAP as understand his situation but there are no suitable properties at present (this is a furnished house and we had agreed to stay for 2 yrs, always pay rent and keep house very smart). Can anyone give advice, I feel very uncomfortable about whole situation

I think that this needs to be resolved by talking to the LL, but if it really came down to it, I think a court would find in your favour because the email (establishing a new contract) supercedes the notice given. However I think there is some debate about whether electronic transmissions are admissable with things like this, so it would be good if you could get your hands on that letter from the LAs. Do you know if your deposit is protected? If not this would be a good bargaining tool.

thanks for replying, our deposit is protected, LL has offered us this last month rent free if we leave according to original contract. Money is not the issue, more of us having an agreement and he now changing his mind. Dont think that the purchasers and EA are aware that we were not expecting to vacate mid June. I think the purchaser is going to be hard pushed to complete in 4 weeks as he needs mortgage and this is listed georgian house in need of work.

I know it can happen, but it's very unlikely that they'll complete in 4 weeks isn't it? I don't know what to suggest, occyelf, but I hope it doesn't get too stressful for you and your family.
