... when i havent got a contract or anything else set up with my landlord? i am only staying 3 months in the city and was given contact from my boss (he is a friend of his). i couldnt see the house upfront as i wasnt in the country and i dont like the place at all. apart from anything else they havent fixed my internet connection and they drink and get drunk which i am not comfotable with.
is it legally ok to tell them a week in advance that i am moving out ? i am paying monthly (not per calendar month but for the 12weeks).

If you do not have exclusive possession of the whole premises then you are a licencee. legally you do not need to have a formal agreement, but they are advisable. As you have no tenancy rights as a licencee and you have no contact in place between you then you do not have to give notice in the way that a tenant would. So yes a weesk notice is fine. legally they can ask you to leave, so have a backup plan for that just in case.
