Trying to sell my car, bought it just over 2 years ago for almost £7000, from a very reputable firm, and a guy who came to look at it said he works for the police force and he can tell its been in a serious accident and has had some "major repair work" and i'll never be able to sell it on, nor should i!! Im on my own now, and i just had my 4th baby and i really really need to sell so i can get a 7 seater! What if he is right? what can i do? is there anything i can do, or am i just screwed? Please help/advise if you can, TIA

Why don't you get the AA to have a look at it?

Although I agree with everyone else. I think he's trying it on.

Agree with beasknees - he's trying it on, how could he possibly know just by looking at the car.
If it really has been in a serious accident I think you would be able to check with your insurance company as there are databases that insurers share that record even the smallest of claims.
Could he have known you are on your own before he came round, is he playing on the fact that he knows you don't have a partner to check with.
Also, how do you know he came from far away, it all sounds like a con to me.

Agree with Judy - how do you know he came from far away. He's out to pick the car up cheaply...tell him you've had it from new and know that it hasn't been in an accident and see what he says then.

do you have any contact details for him? Did he just turn up or arrange to visit? Did you find him intimidating in anyway?

He sounds like a con man tbh.

If he gets in touch ask him which police force he works for.
Which department and so on. If he states he is a serving office then get in touch wiht the police force concerned. If he is then no harm done - if he isnt then possibly that falls under the remit of impersonating a police officer.

If his contact details are vague then I would still get in touch with the police because he sounds like a con artist who has seen a new mother and thought he would try to scare her into selling the car cheaply.

If it were your dh he was talking to or a mechanic, do you think he would have been so confident?
