advice on dealing with loss adjuster

Our house was flooded twice in 2009 and we have been in temp accommodation since September. We've had loads of problems as our insurance company farmed us out to a 3rd party loss adjuster. We submitted our contents claim in November and have heard nothing. I emailed the loss adjuster 2 weeks ago and have phoned 3 times since - and he hasn't responded. Question is (and hoping someone has had some experience and can advise) how far do I push it, given that this guy has complete control over how much we get for both buildings and contents claim? I have heard that if you piss off loss adjusters, they will simply not pay out, or give you a fraction of what something's worth. Don't know what to do!

That's awful! Poor you

I would go back to your Insurance Company for advie as THEY are responsible for the loss adjusters, and it is unprofessional to not reply to an enquiry from a week ago, let alone over 3 months.

Good luck

Loss Adjusters are difficult to get hold of - they are rarely in the office so I would pushing your Insurance Company to get some answers to take some of the stress away from you.

Was more than one house flooded - if so the claim will be pretty big and he will be dealing with them all at the same time. If the flood damage was pretty bad then I wouldnt say its unusual for it to take this long to sort out the claim unfortunately.

In saying that, not responding to you phonecalls since November is just bloody rude!

Phoned the insurance company today, and am awaiting a reply. I asked them to phone me to tell me what's going on even if they can't get the loss adjuster on the phone....
It was the same house that flooded twice, but we had to leave after the first flood, so it just meant drying out all over again - not much more damage was done the 2nd time. All the contents were out, so that claim related solely to the 1st flood.

It's been an eye-opener to me having to fight through this whole process. Thanks for advice - may come back on to sound off again
