DP caught on camera - what happens next?

Have just had a notice of intention to prosecute DP for doing 35mph in a 30 zone.

SO at bloody south wales police...

Anyway, just wondering what to expect next - will it be £60 plus 3 points, or might he get one of those speeding awareness training things?

Would really be interested to know, then I can strike dp off the xmas present list to cover the £60!!

Probably speeding awareness but it will still cost you £60, you just don't get the points.

Why are you at the police? You should be angry with your dh for driving too fast. 30mph limits are there for a reason and the extra 5mph can make the difference between killing a pedestrian or not.

BikeRunSki · 30/11/2009 22:03

Both of these outcomes have happened to me. I think it depends on the local authority as to whether they offer speed awareness courses.

When I did my speed awareness course, it still cost me £60.

strongblackcoffee · 30/11/2009 22:04

no presents for dp then

I think you are very brave starting this thread.

if dp was caught speeding I would be angry with him not the police.

Olihan · 30/11/2009 22:05

If you hit someone at 35mph you're more than twice as likely to kill them than if you hit them at 30mph.

Sorry to preach but the attitude that it's the police who are in the wrong here really annoys me.

Let's hope it's not your dc he hits only doing 35mph.

strongblackcoffee · 30/11/2009 22:10

Hmmmm, wish I hadn't. I take your points. Sorry.

Was just interested to know what happens next, I didn't really want a flaming. I'm going to bed now...

A friend got one of these and the invitation to the course thingy was in with the first letter from the police, so it might be that your local force don't do them yet.

She said the course fee was the same as the fine would have been but she didn't get the points.

Have you had a good look at your DH's letter, to see what's included? Just to check he hasn't missed information about the course in his angst.

If not, I imagine you just have to cough up pdq before you forget and it becomes an issue. You can challenge it if you suspect it's wrong but if you think it's right you need a lawyer to get you off which costs a lot more than £60.

JackBauer · 30/11/2009 22:49

AFAIK south wales police dont offer a course, just 3 points and £60 fine. (I live in South Wales) unless it's changed recently.

ThatVikRinA22 · 30/11/2009 23:37

he will get a £60 fine and 3 penalty points on his licence which will remain there for 3 years.

unless you choose to try and contest it - which isnt to be advised - then the costs can start to mount up.

easiest thing to do is just pay it and forget it. and dont speed.

hth!

I was 6 mph over the limit when I was rushing to work at 6am one sunday morn.

I got a ticket, but paid to go on driver awareness course instead.

I felt like a prized twat sat there having to explain why I was speeding.

I was more at myself then the police for doing their jobs.

And I cried when they showed the 'If you hit someone at 35mph...' because I knew it could easily have been my DS propped against that tree.

A lesson learnt.
