I need one to assign a joint life assurance policy to me as XDH and I have been divorced for about 3 years now but still have this blasted policy in joint names.

He's never paid anything towards it, he gave ot to me as part of the divorce . Does anyone know hpw much it will cost and hoew long a solicitor will take to draw one up?

Alternatively can I download one and fill it in myself? Did all the divirce stuff without aid of a lawyer, so am a bit loathe to engage one now .

Thanks

I am fairly sure your insurance company would send you the relevant form if you rang them up and explained what you want to do.

I've tried that - they have said I need a solicitor - they are bloody useless - typical insurance company

Go to this website and you can get a Deed of Assignment (Endowment or Life Policy) for £11.75..

I suspect you just talked to a very junior person at the insurance company who had no idea what you were talking about.

A decent local solicitor would probably do the job for a few hundred pounds (as it is a quite standard form) which might be worth it if the policy is likely to be worth a fair bit if it is claimed against.

ABetaDad - thank you it looks straightforward enough, I think i'll try the insurance company one more time and if that fails have a go at the form myself.
