Is there anyway to find out the outcome of a court case without actually going to court?

Depends on the court and what sort of case it is.

Check local press for Court Reports. Biggies go in the Broadsheets, smaller stuff locally.

Can you go to the court? Cases are open to the public, so the outcome is public knowledge, so maybe they are posted up somewhere when the verdict is made?

You can phone them. I've done it before and they were very helpful.

Aimsmum I am presuming it is in Scotland as you mentioned Sheriff Court

If so - go here and the result shoudl be up at 2pm ish. Go for structured search and search for criminal judgements for that day

Can't answer your other questions - hopefully a crim lawyer will come along to help

18 mth probation means he is under the supervision of the probation service for that period, what he does with them is dependent on what orders he is/was given. He will have to go to meetings with them etc and co-operate with them. If he offends again whilst on the court order it is taken very seriously and he may have the order revoked and be resentenced for it.

BTW there is heavy pressure atm on sentencing parties NOT to send people to prison - its a government thing and influenced by the fact that the prisons are full to bursting....
