Separating and am confused about ID1 form and potential need for?legal representation being taken off mortgage and title deed

hiya, I am separating from husband and our situation is that he is remortgaging our house and I am being taken off the mortgage etc and he is releasing my share of the equity which I’m using for deposit on new house.
he has his solicitor and I have mine who is purely acting for me in the purchase of my new property. I have paid for and had the ID check done, I paid £42.
my husbands solicitor has said I ‘either’ need to fill out an ID1 form for them or instruct my current solicitor to ‘represent’ me.
what I’m wondering is what is the best thing to do? Is it compulsory for me to prove I have got legal advice (I haven’t, I’m happy with what we decided price wise etc) or can I/should I just do a second ID1 for these lot? (Am assuming I pay a fee for this? I am not sure and I think that if I ask my solicitor they will recommend they represent me and I end up paying hundreds for whatever that entails
so basically what is the sensible thing to do please as I am clueless! All I want is to be able to leave this house and get on with my life 😖
any advice would be greatly appreciated xxxx

This isn't about getting advice. It is about the fact that you are transferring ownership of the property and there is a legal process to go through, much the same as if you were selling the house. If you were selling the property to someone else you would probably use a solicitor or conveyancer to handle the process. The same applies here.

I suppose what confused me is that they said I had to fill the ID1 form or have a lawyer handle it. So it sounded to me like the lawyer wasn’t necessarily a necessity. I’ll ring mine tomorrow and ask them to represent me in the transaction. More bloody money 😖

It's advisable to get legal advice but not compulsory. Hence the mention of the ID1. If you're confident that you understand what's happening, it's entirely up to you.

Yeah thanks I did a google search and it did say it’s not compulsory so I will just do the ID1 form x
