OH report/alternative role

Hi, I’ve had an OH report saying I’m not fit to continue in my current role and to look for an alternative. There are roles available but my employer says they can’t make reasonable adjustments to accommodate me. The role I am looking at has beenadvertised for 6 months now. No interest. I’ve been turned down due to office attendance/days/hours. It seems they would rather have no on over me. Even temporarily. What reasonable adjustments should I expect in a role no one wants?

What reasonable adjustments did OH recommend?
The employer has to consider the RAs but can make a business case for not supporting them, if there genuinely is one.

PoppinjayPolly · 25/04/2026 18:44

What are the reasonable adjustments you need? Can the role still be done with them?

Hardgarden · 25/04/2026 19:17

Why do you want to work for an employer that appears desperately keen for you to leave?

Connachtfive · 25/04/2026 19:33

Get a union representative to support you

godmum56 · 25/04/2026 19:56

not enough information.

not enough information.

Which I always think is pretty telling in itself

Nobody else wanting the role is irrelevant. Nobody can suggest potential adjustments without knowing what the new role entails and the findings/recommendations of your OH assessment.

How come you want the role but noone else does?

SirChenjins · 27/04/2026 13:51

As pp's have said - more info is needed here

Noideawhattodono · 27/04/2026 19:50

my employer wants to keep me in My current role and not move on. They don’t want me to leave. I’ve tried to and they convinced me to stay unfortunately. The role is rubbish, but the benefits/hours/complete remote role are decent incentives to look to move internally. They just don’t want me move as they will struggle to get my experience for what they want to pay. I’m in my 50’s so winding down. I’ve been here a very long time and the compromise re benefits/salary and working hours is a key issue. I don’t need to work. I just don’t feel ready to not work.

What reasonable adjustments have you asked for and what are the current terms of the role you want to apply for?

Noideawhattodono · 27/04/2026 20:18

I have asked for 3 reasonable adjustments that have been agreed in principle. I am now getting vague reasons for rejecting me for suitable roles that are not backed up
with evidence when I push back and challenge. My manager is pushing for me to stay in my current role as I am not easy to replace. I have asked for more detailed feedback via an SAR which I hope will explain why I can’t progress. The role I want I have been doing part time for about 1 year now. Great feedback, positive progress, department need my expertise but can’t pay me my expected salary. Happy for me to do unofficially, but now I want to do it permanently it’s a no go due to days/hours/office attendance which haven’t been an issue for 12 months. I fit the job description, just not the adjustments.

Just a quick update - my employer has now agreed to some adjustments for the role I want. I’m speaking with them next week to see if we can agree terms. The reason they can’t fill the role is it’s very technical and only inexperienced candidates have applied as the salary is crap. The salary is the same as I’m on currently but I’d rather do that than my current role. No idea what they will do re my current role but that’s a ‘them’ problem, not for me to resolve. I’ll get more job satisfaction and I don’t need to work to live. If it doesn’t work out I’ll leave. It’s been a battle but hopefully it will be resolved in the next few weeks.

Hope it works out for you. Your employer doesn’t seem to have much forward thinking, as they will be totally stuffed with both roles unfilled if you leave.

Thank you. I know - and I think they realise this now. It was all about £££ but it’s costing them more in the long run and someone had finally figured this out. They are rubbish but I have been there a very long time. Built up my benefits etc. I know I should leave but for various reasons if I get what I want I will stay. I’m not far off retirement so it’s better the devil you know right now.
