Stressed over speeding ticket(s)

Today I received a speeding fine from 16th March. I was caught doing 46 in a 40mph zone. It was a lone officer with a speed gun on a tripod. My friend said that the officer was there for all of the next week too. I do that journey everyday and a now stressing that there’s more to come! Is t unlikely that I will have gotten pinged by the hand held gun several days in a row? I need my licence!

If you were speeding you have to face the consequences. Speed kills, you’re lucky it’s a fine you’re facing and not court for causing an accident and killing someone.

Why have you started a second thread?

Thought I might get advice on this forum

I’m not sure what advice you want? Slow down would be my advice 🤷‍♀️

Do you drive at 46 mph every day?

Several posters gave you advice on the first thread though? Theres no way anyone can know if you'll get any more fines but as I and others already said it's likely you will have been caught more than once if you're speeding daily.

I know it’s my fault. I was just asking if I’m likely to have been caught multiple times. There’s no need to be unkind, I know it’s my own fault

If the speed camera was there on multiple days and you were speeding multiple times then yes it is very likely you got caught multiple times.

Well yes, if you were speeding more than once while they were there, you'll have been caught more than once. The only person who knows the likelihood of that being the case is you.

Yes you are likely to have been caught multiple times if it is your habit to exceed the speed limit by 15% every time you drive along that road. I know of someone who lost his licence through being caught on camera multiple times on the same journey as he sped past multiple cameras during a long journey.

If you are lucky, one of the letters you get may offer you a speed awareness course instead of the fine - costs you the same but no licence points and they can be a genuinely useful learning opportunity.

Speed cameras and mobile officer speed patrols are placed in the locations of accident blackspots where there have previously been fatalities which were partially caused or aggravated by excessive speed. If you notice a camera, that's a warning not about "you might get caught" but more "if someone died here due to excessive speed, maybe I will slow down a bit". If you don't notice a speed camera or mobile officer speed patrol - which by law need to be clearly visible and easy to notice - then you are not paying due care and attention in a place where fatal accidents are known to happen. Therefore if you get multiple fines my advice to you is to thank your lucky stars, by whose grace you have been so fortunate. This is so much less bad an outcome than if you had killed someone.

I suffer with bad anxiety and I think I’m overthinking it. I was caught on 19th and I’m sure I saw the officer the following week once. My friend who does same commute can’t recall seeing them at all. I just want to know what I’m dealing with. I don’t advocate speeding and I know I was wrong to not stick to the limit.

As far as I was aware; the police have 14 days to provide you with a Notice of Intended Prosecution and a Section 172 (asking for who’s driving etc). If it hasn’t come within this time frame then I don’t believe it is valid. However if you’re incredibly worried about it then speak to a solicitor who can advise
