How long does a prohibited steps order court hearing usually last?

My ex husband is taking me to court as he wants a prohibited steps order to prevent me moving our children to a different city (I’ve been offered a new job). All the paperwork etc is done.

Does anyone have any indication as to how long the actual court hearing might last?

Thank you

What does the notice of hearing say? It'll give you the time allocation by listings.

I went through this years ago as my ex tried to stop me moving back home with my kids. The actual hearing probably took no more than an hour but cost a bloody fortune. This was in England and I was told that the only reason it went to court is because we were moving to Scotland. I was told if I was moving anywhere in England or Wales I wouldn’t have had to go to court, it was only because I was moving them out of the jurisdiction of English and Welsh courts. I won and was allowed to move. It did all feel a bit ridiculous though as I had to prove quality of life standards such as that the DC would have access to clean drinking water, an home and education to a similar standard as England. But I suppose that would all apply in some overseas countries but seemed unnecessary for Scotland where the water is so much better than it was where we lived anyway!!

good luck and hope the move and new job go well. I would make sure I had proof that the new job would benefit the DC financially, prepare a report of where you would live, get Ofsted reports etc for local schools and have a plan to show you’ve thought about how to make his access visits with DC easy and achievable. Obviously I don’t have legal training but this is what I prepared along with photos of the area and the house we’d be moving to to show it would be beneficial to the DC.

First hearing will be for directions. The final hearing will, when listed, set out the estimated length. All cases are different.
