Would you proceed with this solicitor for a will?

I need to make a will, it will be fairly straightforward in some ways but I also have a nephew whose situation I need to consider. I had a recommendation for a solicitor and was booked for an initial telephone consultation. I had been emailed the form in advance so I filled in what I could and had questions regarding other parts. When the appointment time came, the solicitor called and said "I hear you have a question about your will?" Whilst this was true, I needed initial guidance through the making of it. Through the consultation, I had to ask him specific questions whereas I thought I would be explaining my situation and he would guide me through the process. To be fair, towards the end he have good ideas regarding my nephew and suggested I explain in my letter of wishes. The consultation felt rushed, like he thought he was just going to answer a query. He said "oh, are you XX's recommendation?"
In some ways, I just want to proceed and get the will done. The mention of letter of wishes has now led to other questions though!
My question is, would you proceed with this firm or seek another - if so, what is the best way? I have found local solicitors via The Law Society but my original recommendation came via my financial advisor.

I suppose if the solicitor just thought you had a query, that was probably the amount of time they allocated so it would have been rushed as they would have had another appointment booked in straight after you.

I’d just do your will. You can always change it at a later date.

i suspect that your Financial Advisor and he work together and refer clients to each other. Probably most of the ones referred were straight forward where yours seem to have some less straightforward issue. I do find though that most Solicitors work on very tight schedules and have to track their time.

I would actually speak to Marlow Wills, she’s amazing, all on line & no VAT.

She’s on MN and often gives guidance under her user name and has advertised on here previously.

It might have been better to read up on the options regarding your nephew before you made an appointment if you are not just leaving him a sum of money. Often you need to tell them you need more complex advice and you pay more for it. We’ve just changed our will and it’s taken quite a long meeting but it mattered, so we paid up. We also did our homework first.
