Help with harrassment from Builders.

I had a brief, consensual intimate relationship with a man who works for a subcontracting company on the construction site my home is built on. I ended contact with him cleanly several months ago.

Following this, he brought the personal issue into his workplace, which is directly outside my home. I have been dealing with this since November.

I had previously experienced harassment from a third party connected to him, which was reported to the police and has a Crime Reference Number. Since the individual brought this issue onto his workplace, the harassment has escalated and now includes repeated intimidating behaviour from workers on site. This has included pointing at my home, sniggering, staring, looking up at my property, and making comments in a way that appears coordinated and deliberately intimidating. Some of this behaviour has occurred in front of my daughters. The police are aware that the harassment is now also linked to this individual’s conduct on site. I cannot confirm whether this is still ongoing, as I actively avoid being seen and keep my blinds shut.
This man has also spread untrue rumours about me, I've had builders comment that they need to be vigilant of me. Its horrible.

I raised a formal complaint with the main developer operating the site on the 16th. The complaint was passed to the Construction Director, who told me he did not have the authority to remove the individual from site and stated that he knows the subcontractor, the individual involved, and the site manager personally. I attached an inappropriate sexualised joke, that was also made about me from the site manager, on the complaint email. I have the audio recording of this; the audio is partially clear, but the end of the joke is audible and shows me on my driveway at the time. Again, dismissed as banter.

The police emailed the developer on the 23rd. This individual is still working outside my home, and I continue to cross paths with him daily. It is extremely uncomfortable, and I just don't feel safe in my own home.

This is a huge UK developer, and I'm struggling to understand why nothing more has been done. All I asked was that this man is away from my home.

If anyone can give me any help, I really appreciate it.

Does the site display any logos belonging to schemes like considerate construction or whatever it's called?

I think they are part of the CCS. I have thought about emailing but what are the chances of anything being done?

No CSCS is just the scheme that does a card you need to legally work on a site.

What about the subcontractor he works for? Surely they are better placed to remove him and discipline others and demand they do not speak to you or about you at all.

They are all friends. I'm assuming thats why nothing has been done about it.

It sounds awful. How long is the construction likely to go on for?

Quite a few more months unfortunately

If they have signage up saying they're members of the Considerate Constructors Scheme you should contact them and raise a complaint.

Orangemintcream · 28/01/2026 12:28

If it is a huge UK developer don’t bother with the construction director. Make a complaint directly to head office.

Nearly50omg · 28/01/2026 12:41

Contact the police every single time anything happens and also the head office every single time!! Asking for the CEO repeatedly each time

JengaCupboard · 28/01/2026 12:48

Agree with going straight to head office of the subcontractor's employer, i.e. the main contractor. I have worked within construction for years on all manner of sites, and by and large they are cesspits of repulsive male ego when you get down to tools level. Not all, but it's absolutely rife. Be prepared for nothing to be done, sadly.

LostThestral · 28/01/2026 12:59

that is horrible but maybe you need to confirm this is still going on as it's possible they have been spoken to if head office are involved?

If it is then make a note of everything & report to both head office & the police for harrasment

You should shame them with bad reviews on trust pilot and other review sites and Facebook.

It's absolutely pathetic that a group of grown men are consistently harassing a woman simply because she had a brief relationship with one of their friends months ago.

And tweet the main contractor constantly saying how they allow perverts on their sites and do nothing to protect vulnerable women.

Anti Social behaviour team at the Council

I might also try planning as there may be stipulations in the planning consent
