It’s a land registry one

My relative has been left her home by her husband. It was in his name only on his death as it was his before they married and he wouldn’t change it (it had been left to him by his grandfather), they were married for just over thirty years. He was very ill for the past eight years and being a retired nurse she nursed him at home. (And had not much of a life in the last 4.5 years particularly)

its been a nightmare getting the grant of probate (for reasons not needed here) but it’s been 18 months since her husband died.

She has had a traumatic life really and just recently she told me a widowed friend of hers would like to take her for a meal and perhaps more. She like him a lot but feels she should wait until all the legal process of having the house transferred to her name is completed as she’s worried husbands son (who he was NC with) may feel she’s disrespecting his father and step son will contest the will regarding the house (the stepson has inherited a very large sum of money).

the paperwork was sent to land registry last week, we don’t know how long it will take, (somewhere I heard eight months!)

can anyone legal give me any idea if paperwork to change house into relatives name can be stopped (it’s willed to her). (And how long it takes land registry at the moment to process a change of name).

thank you

No, it can’t be changed and it’s taking about 5 months to assent land atm.
