NHS abuse of patient by bank staff

About a year ago I was in hospital after being admitted to a psychiatric hospital. In hospital I was physically abused and sexually abused by 2 bank staff (temps) one of whom i’d seen at the psychiatric hospital.

I was then transferred to another psychiatric hospital where I was given a body scan and photos were taken of my injuries. I was encouraged to let them investigate this further.

In due course the local police department were assigned to look into this case and I had an officer assigned to my case. The officer then looked into the medical notes to try to make sense of them all and pinpoint who abused me as I couldn’t recall names but I could give descriptions.

I was finally told by the officer this weekend that they were not proceeding with this investigation due to lack of evidence, presumably because they couldn’t pinpoint the perpetrators. The psychiatric unit has names of their bank staff but when I saw the manager of this unit he was reluctant or helpful but not that helpful in pinpointing my abusers.,I know them by sight as I said before. Surely records could be checked with the hospital and cross referenced to pinpoint who was employed when?

I know the NHS close ranks and try to cover up bad behaviour.

What could/should I do now or do I just accept this and that nothing further can be done?

Firstly, I'm so sorry. What a horrible situation and that you we made a victim at the time you needed the most support and should have been the safest.

Can I ask if you are based in England or Wales? If so you can ask for a victims right to review, it has to be made within 3 months https://www.cps.gov.uk/prosecution-guidance/victims-right-review-scheme

I would ensure you have an advocate with you, have you contacted womens aid? There may be more going on here as legally they will have to have a record of bank staff, who was on at the time etc and the manager won't have the choice to simply not hand it over so there may be more complexity.

You can also complain to the office of police conduct https://www.policeconduct.gov.uk/complaints/submit-a-complaint if you feel they have made errors that has meant they couldn't pursue this.

Also if this was an nhs hospital you can complain to PALS as well.

There are avenues but also this is an extremely difficult and awful thing if you are already dealing sith mental health issues. Through all this, the most important this is protecting yourself and your mental and physical wellbeing.

Thank you so much for all your advice and I will follow this through.
