Boy tumbled into daughter's car in carpark

A group of five 13-15 year old boys were messing about in the car park today and one of them pushed another into my daughter's car. It's an Aygo and she was in first / second gear, crawling in traffic to get out onto the road.
One boy got his foot caught under the driver's tyre and it pulled his trainer off, and skinned his heel.
She got out but they wouldn't give names and after shouting at her for 'running over their mate' they ran away without giving names. She did manage to ask the boy (who limped off) his first name and age - 13.
She has a video she took immediately after she stopped. It shows the boys and the injury as he limped off. No dash cam.
A man walking by gave his number to her as witness and two boys stopped and said it was the other boys. They also gave first names and numbers to her.
She phoned the police from the carpark and they said we'll just give you a crime number, which they have.
She is worried about the boy. All the children scattered.
What else should she do? She is upset.

Very unlikely they got her number plate, just forget about it and if something gets back to her, she has a witness and all will be good.

But there's a risk that if a claim is made, the insurance company can cancel the insurance and say she didn't report it. Then it's difficult to get insurance in the future.

Unless the boys stopped to take down her license plate number, they have no way of tracing her. And from what you’ve said, they yelled a bit then wandered off. Unless they had their phones out filming it, she should just not worry about it.

For gods sake do not inform the insurance company. All companies now rate on non fault and no claims.

Ex insurance worker here, and there’s no way would I report that. She will have her premiums increased for 3 years.

Insurance companies rate on claims and incidents regardless of fault. So even if no one claims, your premiums will go up significantly as it will be recorded as a non fault incident. With the company I worked for, it would go up around 25-30% at renewal.

She needs to report it to the insurance so they can gather witness statements while it's still fresh in everyone's mind. If he makes a claim in a years time she will wish she reported it now.

The premiums wont go up, this is nonsense. Ive had to report things that no one claimed on before, it doesnt make a difference

I never know how people film things so quickly to be honest so at least she has that, my phone is always at the bottom of my bag so I wouldnt be able to get it out on time, I do wonder about having a dash cam.

Don't tell insurers!!! Of course they will put the premium up!

tripleginandtonic · 16/12/2025 20:25

She needs to be more careful in a carpark. She should have stopped the car.

Don’t do thar whatever you do

Similar happened to my son, and the insurance company told us it was an offence not to report it. The boy involved has put in a claim too. He ran out from behind a van into the side of the car. He claimed a full year later, and apparently can until he is 21!!

Has she asked the car park operator if they have CCTV of the the incident?
