TW - CSA - how could this have been allowed?

I found out that a family member has been convicted of online CS offences. He was originally arrested over 5 years ago but only convicted this year. In the meantime he has been living with a child aged under 16. The child’s mother said she had no idea he had even been arrested until shortly before his sentencing this year.

Can anyone with knowledge of these things explain how can SS have allowed this to happen?! Is this normal?

I would also like to obtain a copy of the court transcripts. Does anyone know if this is likely to be granted? Thanks.

Something has gone very badly wrong there.

On arrest social services should have been alerted and he would not have been allowed to remain in the family home whilst they did a full assesment. The mother should also have been alerted at arrest, and the children's schools too.

The only way I can see that this could have happened is that the father lied to the police when asked if he had access to children in his day to day life, and the police took his word and failed to follow this any further.

You might find it really happy to visit the stop it now website from the Lucy faithful foundation, they have resources for families of offenders, and a really lovely helpline who are happy to talk through the usual process. They are very used to supporting families in shock
