Does CAFCASS Safeguarding letter highlight only CURRENT welfare issues?

In your experience - if there were police / social services incidents like years ago (eg 5 years back), about relationship between you and your Ex, and minor child welfare concerns at that time, all of which never came to anything at the time, has anyone found their initial CAFCASS safeguarding letter flagged these up?

Eg, did your safeguarding letter say anything like:

  • Police Search - 5 years ago, he had concerns of x, y, z. no further action was taken. Nothing more recent.
  • Social Services search - 6 years ago, she had concerns of x, y, z. no further action was taken. Nothing more recent.

Further to a similar post I made yesterday, I'm today trying to get a sense of if the CAFCASS safeguarding letter focuses only on CURRENT (or recent) child welfare issues. And if no current (or recent) child welfare issues exist, whether Cafcass still flag up historical back and forth from 5 years (or more) ago in their initial safeguarding letter.

Also, do they only flag up stuff relating to the welfare of the child, or do they also flag up domestic incidents between the parents (eg 5 years back, she threw something at him. He swore back at her) - if those incidents occurred years ago when the parents lived together, and there are been no reports since (due to parents separating and living apart).

I'm not referring to anything that might be said in the telephone interview here, but specifically about what they dredge up from their police / ss search. (or rather, what the police / ss selectively give forward to cafcass).

Thanks

CAFCASS usually would look back up to about 6 years, they can look further there is no firm limit time wise but it’s typically around 6 years. That said though if there is a history of things like domestic abuse, drugs/alcohol issues, violence then they can look back further than the 6 years and include that.

I’ve recently been through this process. Again 🙄. CAFCASS went back right through to when I left eight years ago until present day. They check the police national computer and any / all LA information relating to you and the child/children have / are living in. In my ex’s case, the contemporaneous check on the PNC threw up some serious safeguarding issues that had not yet become part of a LA due to ongoing as opposed to concluded criminal proceedings.
you are right to point out that CAFCASS do of course provide recommendations and opinion but they can’t select what LA information such as care proceedings /child protection or child in need plan or looked after or PNC yields (no further action, charges etc)
