I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right thread as I've never posted before but I'm in a state and need advice. I clipped the wing mirror of a parked car on a residential street about 11pm. I checked for damage but there was none, no scratches. I heard a bang but I think it was just the wing mirror popping in when I clipped it as it was in when I checked it. There is no damage, nothing is scratched or smashed and I took pictures as best as I could, and I have left a note on their windscreen with my name and email just in case (not sure if I should have left my phone number but I struggle enormously talking on the phone because of my mental health). I am in a state of absolute panic and have been having a panic attack for over an hour now. I am very new to driving (but in my 30s) and have C-PTSD and am autistic so I know logically I may be going to the worst case scenario. Please could someone just let me know what might be likely to happen? I feel so terrible, I think I have done all I could do but have I missed anything? It was also by my children's school so I am worried that it may be parents WhatsApp group gossip by tomorrow morning. I'm such an idiot.

No damage = nothing to worry about. You left a note too, which is far more than a lot of people would do. Hope you get some sleep!!

You did the exact right things. And you have evidence. Your brain is just working against you right now.

If there was no damage as you say, forget about it.

If there was some damage that you missed, you've done the right thing and left your details, so you'll hear from them when they spot it. You can offer to pay to put it right, or go through insurance.

If it was going to be in the parents Whatsapp group it'd probably be in there by now. If you're worried about that though, just own it. Message the group.

"Morning group! Very embarrassing, but I clipped the wing mirror of a COLOUR/CAR MAKE/MODEL on STREET NAME last night! I couldn't see any damage but I left my contact details just in case. If this is your car or you know who it belongs to, please drop me a message so I can apologise directly/rectify any damage!"

This. What's done is done, it's out of your hands now

That happened to me recently. I left a note and eventually the guy got into touch with me. The damage was minor and I paid his invoice to have his bumper pushed back in rather than go through my insurance.
He was nice and polite. Didn’t get angry.

I remember how anxious I felt though!

Someone left a note on my car once when they clipped my wing mirror. My wing mirror was already badly scuffed (by someone who didn’t leave a note!) and they thought they’d done it, I called to let them know it was already like that and they were so relieved. I really wouldn’t worry OP, most people are reasonable. If there’s no damage you may never hear of it again.

Did you tell your insurance? Or wait until you heard from the other driver?xx

In a similar boat. Did you tell your insurance about it or wait to hear from the other driver?xx
