Grassroots football subs refund help

Yorkshiremum80 · 09/06/2025 19:13

My son's team signed up for next season with the football club we have been with for years. However we have since found out the chairman has been accused of mismanagement of funds and all teams aside from one other have left the club. Due to all this being made public we can't recruit players so have had to leave the club. The chairman did say we could all have a refund, as has been the case in the past as the new season hasn't even started. However there is some nervousness around whether this will happen considering what he has been accused of. Do we have any legal rights as it's a sizeable amount of money £200

”some nervousness”

so the person who has been accused of fiddling money is promising you a refund?

op, you won’t see that money

I know and that's why I have posted on here to see if we have any legal rights. We can take the hit but some parents can't afford to pay the subs for a new club without the refund. We will cover what we can for them out of our own money but would like to know if we have any legal rights. Can we charge it back? Is it fraud if they let us sign to a club that probably won't exist by the time the new season starts?

If the club doesn’t exist you may be able to claim the money back on your credit card, or use the chargeback scheme on a debit card. We did this on a club that went bust, as the services wasn’t provided.

The chairman won’t be the only person with access to funds.

This is very odd

is he saying he will personally refund you? Or from club funds?

Yorkshiremum80 · 09/06/2025 19:40

He said it would be refunded back from the club. There are 3 people with access but we don't know at this stage if they are all involved in the wrong doing. Only the chairman has been accused.

Thank you, I was hoping we could do try that if it came to it.

I think chances of getting money back are low to non existent

what an intriguing situation though!
