Fraud call

I answered a UK mobile call yesterday because I work in recruitment and sometimes answer a number I don't recognise.
The call asked if I was xxxx (my name) at xxxxx (company name) and he had a Nigerian accent. I said yes because I do have Nigerian candidates. Then he hung up.
Now I am so stressed that I am going to have my identity stolen or loans, credit cards taken out in my name because he will be able to piece things together now just based on that bit of information.

On that information alone it would be a stretch: think how many people own their own businesses and have that information published on Companies House, or whose company website has a list of staff who work there. Identify fraud requires more information.

If this sort of thing worries you, it’s a good idea to sign up for credit referencing alerts which notify you whenever a search is recorded on your file, which acts as an early warning. Many bank accounts now have an option to access your credit file via their platform and have this feature.

Thank you for this. I just worry about my voice being recorded saying "yes" and can this be used in an AI way? but maybe I am over thinking.

apparently the saying yes scam is a thing although just saying yes is an unusual version of it. I think that credit cards and banks are on to it now but you might like to check what controls you can add to your accounts. www.experian.com/blogs/ask-experian/what-is-say-yes-scam/

The “yes” scam is less fraud, and more that somebody has now confirmed that your phone number is live and belongs to a real human who can now be contacted for further calls - which could be from scammers, or could be for marketing purposes. It’s an irritant, but you can also sign up to TPS with your provider to block unsolicited marketing calls. If you work in recruitment and don’t already, your employee should really provide you with a dedicated phone for this so it doesn’t impact work-related calls.
