I’m going to be executor of my DF’s will. When he dies, do the other’s inheriting have any right to enter the property to be sold? Thanks

No, being named as a beneficiary does not give them the right to enter the property. Are you expecting problems?

Be careful, it also doesn't bar them. Have any of the problematic people got keys?

If you anticipate problems change the locks and ensure you control who gets in.

If there's risk of conflict it may be worth getting a lawyer to act for you.

DH is not the executor of his mum’s house, an independent executor is dealing with it as he and my horror of a SIL are estranged and it’s easier that way. However, he is not barred from entering the house - and has in order to ensure it’s kept in good working order for insurance purposes. It all depends on the circumstances really.

Yes

Umm, require keys or better, change locks

BMW6 · 06/05/2025 18:02

Then as Executor you should get the locks changed so you are protecting the Estate, which is part of your remit.

What sort of issues are you expecting?

Just change the locks surely ?

Topseyt123 · 06/05/2025 18:19

Are any of these problem people going to be inheriting the house? If so then it might be reasonable for them to have a key. If not then just change the locks, with the agreement of beneficiaries who are to inherit it

What are you concerned they will do if they gain access ? They are quite limited and surely it’s in their interests not to hold the process up ?
