Does it matter which parent makes the court order?

My ex decided he was taking me to court months ago - well, according to him he wasn’t “taking me to court” - he got a solicitor and wanted me to get one so they could negotiate child arrangements between themselves. Seemed pointless to me, cos if we couldn’t agree, then why would our solicitors reach an agreement? So I got a solicitor and obviously the solicitors didn’t reach an agreement- my solicitor suggested arbitration (ex also refused mediation before this). However ex also refused arbitration and said he only wants to go to court. Despite it being the last thing I want, my solicitor said it’s best we make the court application before he does. So we did. I’m just wondering if anyone knows what the advantage of this is? Considering I’m not actually the one who wanted to go to court in the first place..shouldn’t I have waited for him to make the application? It’s a time sensitive issue is what my solicitor said (to do with starting school in Sept)
