Finding a good criminal solicitor for false allegations?

DS has just found out that bail was renewed a few weeks ago and the meeting scheduled for today is cancelled. He was not informed - police say they told his solicitor. It appears this is the solicitor assigned as duty solicitor when he was arrested. The solicitor has not been in contact to let him know any of this.

We need to find him a new solicitor (one who actually communicated with him!).

How do you find a decent solicitor? I do not know anyone I can ask for recommendations as this is obviously a tricky situation that I don't want to advertise to the rest of the world!

And he’s on bail?

You and your son must feel like your life is on hold OP? @crisismode

crisismode · 25/08/2025 15:53

@Returnofjude Yes, very much. There seems to be no urgency to investigating - I suspect as they have no supporting evidence and it is not something that would meet CPS threshold for prosecution, no-one is in a hurry to do anything. They have now moved from pre-charge bail to RUI, presumably because there is no progress in the investigation and senior officers would not authorise continued bail. Although this sounds positive, it means no set review dates so even less likely to be resolved any time soon - as you say, life is on hold...

The impact of this has changed the course of his life, and when the investigation is dropped there is no recourse for him.

My friend was arrested through a false allegations. He stayed with the duty solicitor. He couldn’t work and it took 8 months to clear.

his life was in limbo. Just stay calm. It’s horrible to watch.

He managed to get a job? Or same job he had whilst at school and this happened?
