Police protection/above the law

For what reasons might someone be 'above the law'/being protected by the police ie stuff that anyone else would get arrested for they don't?

My list thus far is
witness protection - BUT they tend to have to behave and keep under the radar I think
Covert Human Intelligence Source - definitely used
Freemasons - is this a realistic possibility?

Anything else?

Diplomatic immunity

Useful informants on other law breakers.

Informants - they are protected no matter what. Don't ask me how I know.

INeedAnotherName · 26/03/2025 13:50

Politicians.

Why Freemasons? Why should they be exempt?

DH has been a Mason for decades. You undergo checks before being allowed to join but it's a myth they're immune to prosecution.

That's genuinely shite. No one should be above the law

I'm not suggesting they are immune. I'm suggesting cop freemasons may let their freemason mates off

Do you remember the spy cops who married and had children with the women in the environmental group that they were asked to infiltrate ? Nothing happened to them because they were following orders

I imagine that undercover cops are allowed to do things like use drugs /weapons and hurt people so they don’t blow their cover.

Being royalty or a VIP like a president (would this be diplomatic immunity?) I wouldn’t be surprised if their bodyguards had concealed weapons

I bet a lot of celebrities have used prostitutes (possibly trafficked) or had drug dealers and drugs in their hotel rooms but a blind eye is turned because people want repeat business.

I suspect deals are made so that some awful people get lighter sentences or immunity.

Diplomats.

People pretending to be married to diplomats.
