Planning Permission help

Total novice here!

Can I ask how do you go about getting planning permission? I've found an online form but it's really really complicated and I'm worried I'll fill it out incorrectly. Is it better to pay someone to help me? Or should I just do what I can and assume they'll come back to me if anything doesn't make sense? I don't want to waste time and money unnecessarily that's the issue. But I'm feeling completely out of my depth with it.

Jut to add it's quite simple what I'm having done but the property is a converted flat in a large house in a conservation area.

Its' basically for putting double glazing in. I will not be changing the original surrounding box frames and the moving sashes will be replaced like for like in wood. So there will be no change to the overall aesthetics of the windows at all.

Fill the form out as best you can. If you can give yourself a more important sounding title like Dr or Bss (Baroness) then they'll likely process it faster.

Make sure all the correct drawings are included. If you can match the font of the application onto the drawings the subliminally the planning officials will be more likely to pass the application. Imitation is of course the sincerest form of flattery.

I sometimes include a gift with my submission. A bottle of exotic red has got me past a couple of times. A set of 5 Churchill cigars will have the planning applicant positively gushing. Just remember to find the gift cheap of the web because it can't be over the £50 bribery limit.

This is total bollocks.

Do it via the planning portal as it takes you through the stages and you won’t be able to proceed if elements are missing. The case officer will contact you if they need more info.

With glazing, include the specification and full details including the section plans. Have a look at other similar applications on your council’s planning pages to get an idea of what’s required.

That's a good idea, super useful! I'll have a look for similar applications 😄

@HelenCurlyBrown How dare you

TizerorFizz · 21/02/2025 10:02

@HaveFaithMyChild How dare you more like! Cigars and wine as bribery! Yes. Total rubbish.

Seeline · 23/02/2025 22:16

Ask your window suppliers for help - they should be able to provide the full details of the work and drawings.
Unfortunately the application forms will be complicated as works to flats need full planning permission so you can't use the householder forms.

Is this a poor attempt at humour? 🙄

@HaveFaithMyChild haha, my mum is originally from a country where this definitely would work! Not sure about England though...

MrsFaustus · 23/02/2025 22:53

Well it made me laugh and I used to sit on a planning committee.Sadly no one ever tried to bribe me.
