Can I dump ex's stuff

Split with my ex 2 years ago and he still has a car in my garage and various pieces of shit in my loft. He says he will move then but then never does. Does anyone know my legal rights on this? If I was to send a text stating for it all to be removed within 30 days and if not then I will remove?

He is the type of man who would take me to small claims if I wrongly dispose of something

A car? Is it sorn?

I think 30 days is reasonable

MounjaroNewb · 07/02/2025 18:25

Yes it's sorn and he has the log book. I think it's reasonable - but I need to know if it's legally sound

You could write and say if the stuff isn't removed in 30 days you will take it as him agreeing to paying you a storage fee each month.

DH and I had to pay about £140 a month for a 10' by 10' storage unit so work out the area his stuff is occupying and use that as a baseline.

I don't know if it is legal but it might get him to get a move on.

2 years?!?!?
Get his stuff out the loft.
Get a quote to dispose of his stuff and car.
Tell him he had 14 days to collect.
Otherwise disposal company quote is £x and he won’t see his stuff again.
And you’ll bill him for the disposal.
And take him to small claims if required so you’re not out of pocket.

What a piss taker.

I know it's ridiculous, I've let it go on far too long because I'm scared to rock the boat and have him kick off 🙄

The first meeting with a solicitor is usually free. Book one and see where you stand legally.

Any legal cover with your house insurance?
Fill his car and give him notice it will be parked on the road.
