I live with my partner and have a son but we are not married, are there any legal obligations if I wanted to leave him. Thanks in advance.

In what way? Does he have parental responsibility? Do you share any assets or your home?

ForMum · 04/02/2025 10:16

Well he is named on birth certificate. He is the owner of the house. 'We' don't have any assets others than some appliances. I was only thinking about child.

You can claim cms.

ForMum · 04/02/2025 10:20

I don't want to claim anything. Was just wondering if there any institution I need to connect with to let them know that I will be leaving?

No but you would need to change registered addresses for gp, dentist, nursery, benefits etc

Thank you, are you a lawyer?

There is no-one you have to inform that you are leaving. However, since he is named on the birth certificate, you partner has PR. That means he is entitled to a say in your child's education, medical treatment and religious upbringing. It also means you cannot change your child's name or take your child out of the country without his consent or, failing that, a court order.
