Contract legal advice

Hello I am looking for some legal advice or anyone that has been through this before. I have been a franchisee with a well known driving school and I have been deemed medically unfit to continue indefinitely due to a neurological diagnosis, meaning I can no longer peruse this career but the contract states they will still charge you full franchise fees until the end of the term as stated on the contract. Do I have any rights at all regarding this as I now have no source of income and I can’t afford the £5k they are expecting me to pay. It is completely out of my control. Any advice welcome please.

Hi OP, without seeing your contract it’s difficult to say for sure, worth seeking proper legal advice.

Is there anything about termination clauses at all in your contract? That would be my first look.

Have you tried to discuss this yet, or negotiate? If not, that would be my second look. You need a solicitor to look at all info fully but you may be able to argue Force Majeure- if your diagnosis prevents you from fulfilling your obligations then you could claim this has occurred, it is essentially legal doctrine which excuses performance of a contract due to unforeseen & uncontrollable issues, again though you do need proper legal advise to see if that could apply to you.
