Insurance scam/error, how do we proceed

Someone has CV claimed our car was involved in an accident. Our insurance company has contacted us and requested details. We have denied our involvement in writing and advised we can evidence car whereabouts that day.

The location given is about 6 hours drive from us and we've never been there. The car was in our possession at all times and apart from a child pickup of 90 mins we were together all day. Details of the incident are minimal so far. I don't know how they got our insurance details, though the claimant seems to have their insurance with another company in the same group.
The driver of the offending vehicle (which wasn't us) gave a name that means nothing to us either.

The insurance company🤔, not sure if ours or claimant, has asked to inspect our car. We have agreed to that in principle as nothing to hide but said we are not paying for that inspection and we want out of pocket expenses.

My DH has advised the insurance we will now only deal with them in writing (he has some physical and MH issues) and I don't want them stressing him out. He's already freaking out.

Surely this is not on us, we can prove our whereabouts pretty much all day.

Advice?

Send them your evidence of where you were on the day, along with your own photos of your car from every side. It's most likely the other driver has got the reg slightly wrong and ended up with your car details by mistake. There's an outside chance your plate has been cloned, in which case you'd need to report it to the police. I'd only do that though if the other driver provides photos that show the same make / model / colour vehicle with your reg.

Don't be an arse to your insurers though by trying to claim expenses for helping them clear this matter up. They've received a potential claim against you, it's in your interests (and almost certainly in your policy Ts and C's) to help them resolve it.

Also, make sure who you're talking to! You don't have to talk to their insurance at all, and absolutely shouldn't to protect yourself. If you get calls from anyone acting on the other driver's behalf, direct them to your insurer and don't respond any further.

What is it that you think is not on? Another driver has alleged your car has been involved in an accident. Your insurers are investigating. They can't just take your word for it that you weren't involved - that would give an easy way out for anyone who wants to avoid losing their no claims bonus after an accident. As a previous poster says, it is in your interests, and probably also in your policy terms, that you help them resolve this.

How are they contacting you?

Just to update, we heard nothing following our vehicle being inspected.

Nothing.
I guess that's a good thing, but I would have liked to find out what set them off contacting us, wrong reg or car type or what?
DH is struggling with stuff right now so there may have been contact by email that he hasn't noted but I think the world has moved on..
