I Park Services Fine

Hi I'm posting on behalf of my husband.

Went for a job interview in a city I'm unfamiliar with (Southgate Wakefield).

Entered car park - 7.44am

Paid for parking 07.47am - 10.47am (3 hours)

My fault but I couldn't leave the interview and it went on for longer than I thought. When the interviewer came back into the room I told them I would have to leave to buy another ticket.

Paid for another 3 hours 11.17am - 2.17pm

(So 30 minutes I hadn't had a valid ticket)

Left car park - 1.25pm

So in total I parked 5 hours 41 minutes

I paid for 6 hours.

I've just gone to pay as I agree it's my fault but once I've put in my details it says "Parking without a permit or authority after a period of purchased parking has expired. (Overstayed without authority)."

Which I don't think is fair. I don't suppose the wording matters and I realise I was parked when I shouldn't have been but they are more or less saying I haven't paid at all.

So if I hadn't paid for the 6 hours I'd still be fined £100??

I appealed the first letter and have only just found their reply in my junk folder. So I'm assuming the original fine was £60 which I'm kicking myself for as I should have paid it.

If I have to pay I have to pay but I'm so confused.

I know people will say I didn't pay to park so I should pay the fine but I think they are treating me as though I haven't paid at all.

Thank you.

They are not treating you as if you haven't paid. The wording is clear that you did pay, but you stayed beyond your paid for session, which is correct. Your paid for session finished at 10.47 but you didn't leave. The fact you subsequently paid for a further session starting at 11.17 is irrelevant. I really don't know why you are hung up on that wording. You won't succeed with an appeal because the simple fact is that you did stay beyond the period you had purchased. Sorry.

I assume from the reference to I Park that this is private land and not a council car park.

Is that right?

I guess so. I don't drive and husband is away.

If it's private land you could try ignoring it but since the Supreme Court clarified the law in these circumstances in a case called Beavis the operators have been much more bullish about taking them to the County Court.

I think your best bet is probably to pay now.

Yes I'll pay thanks
