Long term Leasehold properties

We have bought a property with a 100 year lease. We are trying to look at a Free hold and have been for 15 years. It's not really going to impact us if we sell But despite all the research, the companies have gone under. Talking about Train dissolution, we have a station house.
Anyone got any ideas? We have tried everything so far.

Just wondering if it would ever be possible to change it to a freehold.

I thought that, for houses, there was a right to enfranchise?

wishingchair1 · 19/10/2024 13:49

Thanks. The problem is the house is 1848 and there is no landlord. The land is sort of split in 3 ways.

It isn't something that will really affect us but, it is always nice to tie things up and someone will question when or if we come to sell.

Do you mean the freeholder is absent or unknown?

The freeholder is unknown

I did this. One of the three freeholders could not be found. I had to still pay, but the £££ is sitting in some random government bank account. It is bonkers.

There is another route where you can declare a freehold abandoned, but the system does not like this (must protect land owners interests), and you will need a barrister to argue your case, so like just as expensive as buying the freehold.
