Police came for my partner when he was out but he isn't on their system

Hi everyone,

My partner is out on investigation for something he was accused of by someone he knows. Last night at 9pm a police officer came knocking asking for him, I told him he was out, they asked when he would be back and left, they didn't leave any note or paperwork or anything.
My partner called today to check what it was but he was just told the officer was told to call him back but that my partner wasn't on the system so they don't actually know. I'm so confused. What does that mean?

Either they're just being evasive until the officer is available to talk to him in person or it's a very informal matter that hasn't been logged on the system.

Or could it be a police force from a different area?

Thanks so much for your reply.
We live in a completely different area to where he was arrested first, could it be that the first area (in England) issued a warrant for his arrest and that it's not showing up where we are (in Scotland)? Freaking out and imagining the worse case scenario

Would an address check be considered an informal matter that doesn't necessitate being logged in?

I take it that it was an actual police officer and not some thug dressed up as one to try and hurt him or something...

Did he come in a marked police car?

" Freaking out and imagining the worse case scenario"

Leave this man. Far far away,

Womens Aid can help you.

Not sure where Women's Aid comes into this? (Over 12 million people in the UK have a criminal conviction. And as far as we know OP's partner hasn't been convicted of anything yet).

Yes, if it's a different force area they may not use the same system or have access to another areas investigation.

It sounds like it would be logged on a system somewhere but might be worth trying to call the area that are dealing with it. Usually better to get things sorted as they rarely go away!

They'd have only got a warrant if he's failed to attend court normally, otherwise depending on the seriousness, they may want to discuss the incident, or invite him to an interview or arrest him.

They don’t have a phone number for him on the system so have been asked to call around by the neighbouring force instead to update him maybe? Try calling the original force he was arrested with and see if they are trying to contact him.
