Passport countersignature will I get in trouble

Right so I've just countersigned a passport online for my nephews (sisters son) new baby. It said I couldn't as we are related (I ticked related) so I went back and unticked related and ticked I know them. Basically filled it all in and right at the end I was going to google search if I could get in trouble for doing this and if the answer was yes then I wasn't going to submit it and tell him I can't do it. Anyway before I even had chance to google I clicked confirm thinking I was just confirming the current answer to a question and it submitted the whole thing and now I'm shitting myself that I could get in trouble for saying we're not related when we are. Not hard to notice we are related as we have the same surname. I'm such an anxious person anyway and think the worse of every situation but now I feel awful and sick and on edge that I will get in real trouble. Like I said I wasn't going to submit it before a quick google search first but i accidentally submitted it. I'm such an idiot I want to cry. What will or could happen. Please help!

Can you call the passport office in the morning, say you made a mistake and that you need to change the declaration tick box?

Yes, you can get in trouble for falsely counter signing a passport. It's a passport, not a Boots advantage card.

I agree with Starlight, call them.

Cerealkiller4U · 29/09/2024 22:21

You clicked confirming but didn’t think that meant to confirm the answers?

really?

it would of been more believable if you said you just clicked accept by mistake as that I have totally done before because of like muscle memory

i I mean it’s fraud of the uk government really.

ring them up and explain immediately

Hohofortherobbers · 29/09/2024 22:28

Yes, you need to call them. You are related and you have declared you're not. You need to rectify that.

Just as an aside, never Google about a criminal offence you have just committed or about to commit!

They will just ask for an alternative countersignature if they pick up you are not eligible to sign
