Employment- secondment coming to an end.

Possibly outing but fuck it, I don't care.

I am currently on a secondment. I have a substantive post that is a significant drop in salary (10k+). I've been on secondment for nearly 3 years so far. Originally it was supposed to be for 18 months, but has been extended twice.

I work in a specific stream of my business, there is another team who carry out similar work but in another stream of the business. We have different T&Cs.

My line manager has been made redundant. The other team are currently undergoing consultation and redundancies are expected.
There is a post that would match my work in their new structure.

I have been informed today that my secondment is coming to an end next month and I have to go back to my substantive post. Not eligible for redundancy or redeployment..

I've spoken to ACAS and they have said there is no law about length of secondment so there isn't anything I can do.

Any employment experts on here? Is there anything I can fight them with?

Ultimately I'd be happy with a redundancy package.

Edited to add- secondment is coming to an end because there is no more funding for it.
They say they are hopefully going to make a permanent post (similar to mine) but there is no guarantee that would happen and it will be at least 2025 before that happens.

It will depend on the terms of the secondment but I think it is right you return to your substantive post and pay.

Your best course of action is to start applying for jobs at the higher level.

I consulted employmebt law solicitors about this matter (from the employer's side) and was advised exactly what ACAS has told you.

Your substantive role still exists so you aren’t redundant.

Secondments don’t confer rights to anything other than a role at your substantive grade being available when it ends.

(HR professional).

As others have said, you were seconded and you are being returned to your substantive role. You have no claim. You are of course free to resign.

Sorry OP, that does sound shitty for you. I'd be frustrated too, especially after 3 years.

I hope you can start to apply for higher level roles with your experience.

Thanks all, as I expected I guess.

Trying really hard not to take it all personally. Let the job hunt begin 😐
