Hello,

I’m writing this for advice please no hate! Sorry this is a long one - I am living in a 1 bed flat with 3 children under 3 (one older and twins). We are under the affordable rent scheme from the council which I had before I had children. When I found out I was pregnant with my twins I was due a week before I was supposed to return from maternity leave at work and extended it with every intention of returning when my twins where 9 months old and getting a bigger place to live once I was back on wages. I suffered with depression since and well before I had children.

I have had medical issues with my twins which made it really hard to return to work due to lack of sleep/extra support needed for them and still ongoing tests etc. one of my twins have severe eczema and allergies and requires bathing/routine prescribed creams and medicines etc but she is up all night every night crying and scratching because of this and I usually sleep between 2-4 hours per night which has made it impossible to return to work until this is under control. We are in touch with the Pediatrition and allergy specialists and have been referred to other things through the hospital just waiting for appointments.

My other twin has just been referred to the one stop through the hospital for developmental delays and suspected ASD. We are just awaiting appointments.

I have no space what so ever at home. Because my twin is up all night every night screaming it wakes my other children up so I’ll be up all night with them all. I have tried putting her in the living room and sleeping in there with her but it means I have to sit in the dark from 7pm because she will be going to sleep. We have a bedroom, a living room/kitchen in one room and a bathroom.

I am on the social housing register as a band B and I am coming between 40-60 on the bidding list. I have tried to get private rent but nowhere will accept me with benefits but also I can’t afford it.

I was thinking about trying to get in touch with the local MP for a supporting letter to the council and letters from doctors, HV etc would this even help? Has anyone been in this situation before?

really struggling !! If you got this far thank you for reading!

I don't know about the mp.

I have known people in my line of work get letters from mental health team detailing health circumstances and the effects housing is having on them but in all honesty, I dont know how much difference it makes.

Unfortunately, if there is so few available, suitable properties, then a lot of the time it comes down to waiting, especially when you have secure accommodation, even if it is not entirely suitable for your families needs.

I suppose what I am saying is it can't hurt to get these supporting letters but I dont know how much impact it will have on how long you have to wait.

Just keep going OP, and if you can widen your areas on the housing list, you'll be surprised at how quickly you get there, definitely get the letter from GP but I think band b might be better than band A because with band A you have no choice with what you accept (I believe anyway).

If you’re 40-60 it means that 40-60 people with similar or worse desperate circumstances are ahead of you. You need to keep going I’m sorry.

OP get in touch with your children with disabilities Social work team ,I think you need a bit of help and getting some support from them and input might get you into band A on medical grounds ..
