Can any tell me about jury vetting in England?

I hope jury vetting is the right term – I mean the bit when you're actually at the court and they're selecting new juries, rather than the background check they do in advance.

What happens? Who has a say in whether or not you get picked? And what influences their decision?

Any insights very welcome, from people who've done jury duty or, of course, anyone involved in the system!

(I'm asking as a potential juror, not because I'm awaiting trial.)

It’s random. No bow tie influence at all. People watch too much U.S TV.

And you can’t volunteer. That would skew the demography and go against the whole premise of the jury system in E&W.

Yes there's none of the objecting to the jurors by the prosection or defence based on age, sex, colour, occupation.

Maybe you should start buying lottery tickets.

If I were you, I'd be investing in Premium bonds! You have a 'luck' gene!

Sadly I’m not remotely lucky. Every single time I’ve been called up it’s been incredibly inconvenient and a pain to get out of. The first time I’d just turned 18 so it was fine but every other time I was just about to give birth, had just given birth, or had a child in hospital. When I did get called up again and selected it was a horrific rape trial. I’m more than happy to pass on my lucky streak to anyone else that wants it. 😂

My DS was called for jury service and declared he knew someone in the case. He was embarrassed telling me about it as he looked over and said. I know her when he was in the court. Turned out he knew the prosecutor!
