Speeding ticket docs sent to wrong address - what can I do to avoid court!!!

Hi! Please help!

I drove at 25 mph on a three lane carriageway a few months back, in my mum's car. She received the first notice, and informed them it was me. The police then sent me the notice, but the postcode was wrong so it went to my neighbour, I expect. I think this because one evening I heard the letter box and saw the letter on the mat (opened, so I'm not sure whether all papers were inside). I returned it asap with my details confirming I was driving, but I think it was one or two days over the 28 day limit (not my fault as i didn't receive it on time). I now have a letter telling me I need to go to court.

What can I do? I was ok with just paying the £100 fine or going on a speed awareness course, but I really don't want a hefty fine and 6 points!

Can someone please advise? What might be my options at this point, please?!

Sorry, I should add, the 3 lane carriageway has a 20mph speed limit.

You'll have to go to court as it's over the time to book an online or a driver aware course.

Who got the postcode wrong? Your mother or the police?

I feel for you as I live in wales and the 20mph is a joke.

Yes, I'm in London. Even 3 or 4 lane carriageways. But then it's not blanket, as in Wales, I believe. So a residential road will be 30mph, THEN you turn onto a 4 lane carriageway that is 20mph. The brain has to do acrobatics. It's very very strange.
