I've lived in my house for 10 years and I know the names of everyone else who has lived here since it was converted into a house in the 90s. Today I received a letter to an unknown recipient and I know it is definitely not a neighbour's post gone astray either. The contents are just a marketing type mailing but is this something I should be concerned about ? Maybe check on the credit rating agencies ? I will return it as 'not known' but I wondered if there were any scams of this type ?

Also worth searching your address on companies house in case someone is using it. It's very simple for people to do this and a pain to sort out.
I also get Land Registry alerts (if you're a home owner)

Probably just an error on a database somewhere.

@PurpleOliveCupboard Thank you. I'm already set up for the land registry alerts after that story of a man's house being sold without his knowledge ! My address will be on companies house for my company but a good call to check for others. With so many scammers out there it's easy to get a bit on the back foot.

In this scenario, I'd just open it.

You think it's junk mail anyway so don't give them the satisfaction of data harvesting anything (wrong occupants name) by returning to sender.
